Pinniped ≠ fruitarian

We're not sure whether this was intended for the sea lions or the sea gulls, but somehow a piece of fruit landed on the docks. More than likely, a human is responsible.

It seems clear that while other species besides sea lions (also known as pinnipeds) occupy the docks, the sea lions dominate. Ultimately, no sea lion was interested in eating the tangerine. They sniffed it, then ignored it until the occasional sea gull would swoop in to claim it. Then it became a chasing game between the sea lions and sea gulls which the gulls eventually won by capturing the prize.

Come visit the Sea Lion Center when you're at Aquarium of the Bay or near PIER 39 and take as much pleasure in witnessing sea lion shenanigans as we do!
Sea Lions are considered “opportunistic feeders,” eating available prey rather than one species.
The average life span of a California Sea Lion is 20–25 years.
